Hej

VADIM REPIN

And featuring the collections, “Repin au Louvre” and “Tutta Bravura”
CD 1 – Tutta Bravura – feat. Tchaikovsky, Bazzini, Wieniawski, Paganini, Ponce, Schubert (Alexander Markovich, piano)
CD 2 - Repin au Louvre – Debussy: Sonata in G minor, Schubert: Grand Duo in A major, Prokofiev: Sonata for 2 Violins (Boris Berezovsky, Raph Gothoni, Anton Barachovsky piano)
CD 3 – R.Strauss: Violin Sonata Op.18, Stravinsky: Divertimento, Bartók: 6 Romanian Folk Dances (Boris Berezovsky, piano)
CD 4 – Prokofiev: Violin Sonatas 1 & 2, Five Melodies Op.35b (Boris Berezovsky, piano)
CD 5 – Ravel: Violin Sonata, Medtner: Violin Sonata no.3 ‘Epica’ (Boris Berezovsky, piano)
CD 6 – Tchaikovsky: Piano Trios No.s 1 & 2 Op.50, Shostakovich: Piano Trio No.2 Op.67 (Boris Berezovsky, piano, Dmitri Yablonsky, Cello)
CD 7 – Mozart: Violin Concertos nos 2, 3 & 5 (Yehudi Menuhin, Wiener Kammerorchester)
CD 8 – Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D major Op. 35, Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D minor Op.47 (Emmanuel Krivine, London Symphony Orchestra)
CD 9 – Shostakovich: Violin Concerto no.1, Prokofiev: Violin Concerto no.2 (Kent Nagano, Hallé Orchestra)
CD 10 – Lalo: Symphonie Espagnole, Chausson: Poème, Ravel: Tzigane (Kent Nagano, London Symphony Orchestra)
The career of Vadim Repin – the violinist described by Yehudi Menuhin as “simply the best, the most perfect violinist I have ever heard” – receives a major retrospective in this 10 CD anthology of recordings made for Erato and Warner Classics between 1995 and 2001, repacked as a capbox with new cover art.
Repin was born in Siberia, and came to international prominence after winning the highly prestigious Reine Elisabeth Concours competition in 1987.
This set surveys the considerable breadth and the dazzling virtuosity that has distinguished Repin’s career throughout.
Showpieces such as Ravel’s fiendish Tzigane and popular works like the Violin Concertos of Tchaikovksy and Sibelius, Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto and Mozart’s Violin Concertos 2, 3 & 5, are balanced by lesser known areas of the violin repertoire…
….including Richard Strauss’s Violin Sonata, Stravinsky’s Divertimento and a disc of sonatas by Russian composer (and colleague of Rachmaninov) Nikolay Medtner.
Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky are celebrated in performances of their rarely heard Piano Trios.
A disc of Prokofiev’s complete violin sonatas is accompanied by Russian star-pianist Boris Berezovsky.
Two ‘concept albums’ include Tutta Bravura – an album of virtuosic works largely written by violinist-composers like Paganini, Ponce and Wieniawski – and Repin Au Louvre – music by Debussy, Ravel, Schubert and Prokofiev captured live in the splendour of Paris’s historic art gallery. Gypsy violinist Roby Lakatos joins Repin for a rousing encore.
Repin is accompanied by the Hallé Orchestra under Kent Nagano for the Shostakovich and Prokofiev works, and the London Symphony Orchestra under Emanuel Krivine for the Tchaikovsky and Sibelius concertos.
Legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin conducts Repin in the Mozart concertos with the Wiener Kammerorchester.
After a live performance of Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto, Repin was described as “The reincarnation of David Oistrakh. Without question Repin is the premier violinist of our time” in Concert Classic.
Le Monde de la Musique: “One wonders how Repin manages to find so much freshness and spontaneity in a work as well known as the Tchaikovsky Concerto…one is tempted to put Repin, with Milstein, Heifetz and Stern, at the very summit of a plethora of recordings.”

Warner Classics 10cds 2564632632

ps det er de originale cd'er der bare er pakket i en papæske - lidt ærgerligt at den nyeste Thaikowsky ikke er med, så kunne man have sammenlignet.

András Schiff: piano

Live recording from the Zürich Tonhalle, produced by Manfred Eicher

International critics writing on the first two volumes of András Schiff’s Beethoven sonata cycle have praised a particularly “sharp attention to detail” (Jed Distler in Gramophone on volume II) and expressed their high expectations for the edition as a whole, with Le monde de la musique saluting Schiff as one of the “great Beethoven interpreters of our time.”

Schiff’s concept to approach the sonatas in strict chronological order proves especially successful in this third instalment which combines the four smaller sonatas Opp 49 and 14 with the brilliant Op. 22. “It’s fascinating for me to reconstruct this creative arc as though I were taking an overview of it for the first time, and assembling it into a large-scale narrative”, says Schiff in the introductory interview with Martin Meyer printed in the CD booklet.

Schiff’s Beethoven cycle on ECM New Series continues in spring 2007 with Volume IV including the Sonatas Opp. 26, 27 and 28. On the concert platform he performs the concluding eighth Beethoven programme in 15 cities from November, including recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall (29 November), St George’s, Bristol (1 December) and Symphony Hall, Birmingham (3 December).

Orchestral Music

Snefrid (Suite for Orchestra)
Saul and David
Rhapsody Overture
Willemoes
Pan and Syrinx
Cupid and the Poet Op. 54
Helios Overture

Danish National Symphony Orchestra, DR / Thomas Dausgaard

Carl Nielsen is world famous for his six symphonies and his two operas Saul and David and Maskerade. In addition he wrote programme music and incidental music for the theatre, thereby creating some of his most popular works. This release features some of his finest pieces for orchestra, displaying the composer’s sharp sense of the humour, be it either refined or playful.

The orchestral works on this disc take the listener on a journey: from Carl Nielsen’s first true theatre music with the orchestral suite Snefrid (from 1893), to Nielsen’s very last orchestral composition, the overture Cupid and the Poet (from 1930). Also featured are other important orchestral works from the composer’s pen such as Rhapsody Overture (1927), Pan and Syrinx (1917-18) and of course the beautifully programmatic Helios Overture (1903).

Dacapo’s previous releases of Nielsen Symphonies with this orchestra have been widely acclaimed: “In sum, these performances stand as the best modern recordings of these symphonies available, and Dacapo's engineers capture them in a wonderfully realistic and natural acoustic.” Classics Today on 8224156

In October 1999, a large grey box was dispatched unsolicited from Cape Cod to London. Its contents included a range of unpublished, undated manuscripts, written in both prose and poetry, with an address label etched in the unmistakable hand of Edward Gorey, whose work was in the tradition of Heinrich Hoffmann, Edgar Alan Poe and Edward Lear. These manuscripts inspired a new cycle of songs by Martyn Jacques for the Tiger Lillies.

Sadly, Edward Gorey died during Easter 2000, before he had the chance to listen to the new material. In his memory, The Tiger Lillies recorded the songs that summer for EMI, and are joined on the recording by the Kronos Quartet on all but 4 of the tracks.

The Tiger Lillies have been described as ‘outrageously macabre Brechtian cabaret’. They have a huge cult following including Terry Gilliam, Robin Williams and Simpsons creator Matt Groening.
Fusing the spirit of punk with the passion of the Rive Gauche and the savagery of Dickensian underculture, they have been hugely successful over the years since they formed in 1989, one of the highlights being Martin Jacques receiving an Olivier award for his performance in cult play Shockheaded Peter.

Kronos Quartet are known for their unique artistic vision and fearless dedication to experimentation. Since their inception in 1973, they have assembled a body of work unparalleled in its range and scope of expression, and in the process have captured the attention of audiences worldwide. Their extensive repertoire ranges from Alben Berg, George Crumb, Charles Mingus to Philip Glass and Steve Reich amongst many others.
