Marc-Andre Hamelin, pianist født 1961 i Montreal.
Han har i mange år været en favorit, og da jeg heldigt så et program med ham blev jeg glad for at hans indstilling til sin rolle som koncertpianist, fuldstændig er som jeg har opfattet ved at høre ham. ”Han er ikke interessant, klaveret er endnu mere uinteressant. Man skal ikke se og høre ham og klaveret. Man skal høre musikken”. Hans eget udsagn om hans tilgang og formål til musikken og de mange geniale stykker som komponisterne har lavet.
Lad mig lige tilføje at han er en af de skarpeste knive i skuffen når det drejer sig om klaverteknik, han spiller ubesværet de sværeste af de sværeste stykker, og så er han en
pragfuld fornyer af klaverreportoiret. Komponister som Roslavets, Medtner, Ornstein, Ives, Godowsky o.m.f., og så er det også en ren fornøjelse at høre ham i ”standards” som Listz, f.eks. den fortærskede ungarsk rapsodi i Ciss som lige nu er i spillen, og som fryder og fornøjer.
