When the people of the country have forgotten how to disagree
And the national economy is said to be OK
And the wages that you get will help you to forget
Will you keep your ideologies or throw them all away?

When the system has you beaten
Even now you haven't eaten
Cos you can't afford to eat or drink to keep your brain alive
You blame the system for the weather but carry on as ever
You go to work at half past eight and come back home at five

In 1963, the Dave Brubeck Quartet (with bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello) recorded a famous concert at Carnegie Hall that is finally available as a two-CD set. The group sounds particularly inspired, making At Carnegie Hall one of their most essential releases. They had recorded their classic Time Out album three years earlier and this concert has extended versions of Take Five and a definitive Blue Rondo A La Turk. Other highlights of the exciting evening include St. Louis Blues, Three To Get Ready and It's A Raggy Waltz. Joe Morello's virtuosity and explosive playing was clearly a major asset to the group and he is heard throughout in top form.

Every so often you're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. And we were the lucky ones, those of us who were in Carnegie Hall on Friday night, February 22, 1963. That was the night the Dave Brubeck Quartet reached swinging heights few of us had ever heard it attain before. It began predictably as a good Brubeck concert, but nothing out of the ordinary. We were all there on this Washington's Birthday because we like to listen to Brubeck, and we were hearing pretty much what we had expected to hear. And so we were satisfied. Then suddenly it happened-right after the start of the third number. Don't ask why. Probably nobody can explain it. But it happened all right, and what had begun as a quite good Brubeck concert burst abruptly into a truly great one. From then on, this turned out to be the night the Dave Brubeck Quartet was really swinging. This was the night it fell into a groove few, if any of us, had ever realized it could find. This wwas one of those nights when everything turned out right. During intermission I sat with Dave and Paul Desmond in their dressing room. They were very happy. A great rapport had been established, because they were feeling exactly what we had been feeling out front. They knew even better than we did that this was a special night. Some days later Dave, still exultant about what had happened at Carnegie Hall, remarked, The group had reached swinging heights like that before. What was lucky is that this concert was recorded!

Fantastisk plade.

Estella Harris, 1 January 1896, Cairo, Illinois, USA, d. 19 April 1986,Chicago, Illinois, USA. Raised in Chicago, the young Estella took anearly interest in music by singing in church and learning to play theguitar. She married pianist Jimmy Yancey in 1919 and over the next twodecades frequently sang with him at informal parties. Yancey firstrecorded with her husband for Session in December 1943; "Make Me APallet On The Floor" became her virtual signature tune thereafter. Theyrecorded a long session for Atlantic Records in July 1951, just twomonths before Jimmy Yancey's death. Mama Yancey more or less retiredfrom music after that but was persuaded to make the occasionalappearance and recording session. South Side Blues and, to a lesserextent, Mama Yancey Sings, were the last occasions when her bellowingchurch-based singing style was heard at its best. Her last album, MaybeI'll Cry, was recorded when she was 87 years old, three years beforeher death.

Medvirkende solister bl.a. Lone Koppel, Gitta Marie Sjöberg, Irene Graaner, Ib Hansen, Anne Frellesvig, Minna Nyhus og dirigenterne Tadeusz Wojciechowski, Klaus Weise, Arvid Jansons, Lamberto Gardelli, Bruno Bartoletti, Michael Schønwandt, Johan Hye-Knudsen, Tamas Vetø, John Frandsen og Poul Jørgensen CLASSCD5004-5

SÃ¥ spiller Rica Amabis med nummeret Mulatta Assanha.

Bare super drøn godt.
Ikke heavy. Ikke techno. Ikke jazz. Ikke klassisk. Ikke rock.

Gæt selv hvad det er.

Lidt mere hype for denne CD.

awards: • Gramophone Editors Choice Disc of The Month - April 2007

Se at få den scoret.

Tom Waits (introducing Tango Till They're Sore, 1985): "Thank you eh. This is about a guy that eh fell out of a window on New Year's Eve.
