Putting on the RCAs - Next figure out which is the left channel and which is the right by stripping the shielding back to expose the signal wire. This time strip the metal braid shielding as well. The red and green wires are the right channel, the white and blue the left. The red positive wire is soldered to the center pin of the right channel RCA (usually a red or gray plug) and the green negative to the outside ring. The white positive is soldered to the center pin of the left channel RCA (usually a white or black plug) and the blue negative to the outside ring. How this actually works depends on what brand you chose. I recommend you find one which is solderable. Also make sure the steel braid shield is tucked inside the rubber shield. Pulling on the rubber shield so it covers a closely trimmed metal shield will usually handle this. If you roll your own lead wire and do not have a rubber shield, make absolutely sure the metal shield, which is connected to ground, does not come in contact with anything that contact the positive and negative channel's signal wires. Use heat shrink back from the point were the wires separate left and right and stop the metal shielding there.
If you require balanced outputs, this is a simple step. Check the pin designations on the phono inputs. The pins are numbered and their designation should be listed in your owner's manual. In most cases, pin one is Ground, pin two is Positive and the third pin is Negative. For the ground, in this case, the metal shielding would be twisted, tinned and soldered to the third pin.
AQVOX - Cinch RCA jack /XLR-plug Adaptor for PHONO2CI - makes TRUE balanced CURRENT amplification easy possible.
! Important: only the balanced input has the unique-sonically advantages of a TRUE BALANCED - CURRENT AMPLIFICATION!
85% of all tested MC-cartridges do sound better at the balanced input, but there are some MC´s sounding better at the RCA voltage amplifier input.
Therefore it should always be tested, at which input a MC cartridge sounds better.(most MM-cartridges have to high impedance for the XLR-input)
For connecting tonearms (with MC-cartridges) with RCA-plugs (Cinch) at the XLR balanced input of the PHONO2CI phonoamp. Herewith a REAL balanced operation is possible. Only the balanced input is a current amplifier. This rarely found balanced-current-input is really a rare circuit. Most of all tested MC´s do sound better at the current input. Only in balanced mode the CURRENT-Amplifier input for MC´s is active! AQVOX strongly recommends to try also the RCA input, because somel tested MC-cartridges do sound better at the RCA input, which is a voltage-amplifier.
Also with balanced XLR input, the unbalanced RCA output is active!
High-quality strong IT-full-thermoplastic-XLR-plugs.
Gold plated precision machined bronce contacts.
Gold plated less metal RCA(Cinch)-jacks with OFC-Copper wire.
Soldered-connection made with highsilver-solder.
Be carefully, that at the cartridge or the Phono2Ci or other equipment can be damaged if not used with care. You are using the adaptors at your own risk! If the adaptors or phonocables get in touch with the metal-case of the Phono2Ci or any other devices or ground or the turntable etc.. . Be aware, if using these adaptors the outer metalpart (screen) of the RCA adaptor which is normally ground/mass is now HOT. The screen has become a signal-carrier! So any contacts to earth/ground is a short-cut! So always unplug all your components before connecting disconnecting anything!
If you have questions regarding this, please consult your local dealer or contact us!
2. ATTENTION! most REGA-Tonearms may need for best balanced operation a simple modification, a separation of the tonearmground from the left channel signal-ground. (for instructions click here)
3. ATTENTION! Adaptors offered for example from Neutrik (NA2MPMF) and similar models are NOT compatible, because wired like IEC 268-12: Pin 2 = Signal; Pin 3und Pin1= Ground/screen
AQVOX XLR/RCA:
XLR-Pin 2 = Signal+ = connected to RCA center pin
XLR Pin 3 = Signal- = connected to RCA ground (collar)
XLR Pin 1 = screen is NOT connected to RCA
This adaptor is necessary for testing the full sonic performance! In case the MC-system sounds better at the XLR (balanced current amplifier) input, the optimum is to change the phonocable to a balanced one (either two hot wires in one screen, or two hot wires and no screen) . For this please consult your dealer or us.
No matter, if the balanced XLR input or the unbalanced RCA input is used. Both outputs are usable at the same time!
