We always knew Tesla was right: MIT physics professor Marin Soljacic and his team of researchers behind the latest wireless electricity scheme
have reportedly demoed their magnetically coupled resonator technology
on a 60-watt lightbulb that wasn't plugged in. Of course, no technology
should be without a name, and so they've dubbed it WiTricity.
Apparently Soljacic thinks it's possible to commercialize WiTricity
within the next few years, which would be totally amazing if it was
powered by Steorn's humanity-saving infinite energy device. [Warning: subscription req'd for link]

The Boston Globe reports
that MIT has discovered a way to recharge portable devices using
WiTricity, or wireless electricity. The research team has figured out
how to wirelessly illuminate an unplugged light bulb from seven feet
away. In a December story in the Globe, MIT physicist Marin Soljacicsketched out a vision of how everything from iPods to laptops could bewirelessly recharged by using a carefully designed magnetic field todeliver power to such devices from a range of 10 to 15 feet. Now, MIT said, Soljacic and a research team he works with have somedata to begin validating his theory - namely, the successful experimentto light a 60-watt light bulb from a power source two meters away, withno physical connection between the power source and the light bulb.
